Luke Michael Bowe is Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech. He holds a Ph.D. with distinction from New York University and completed a Master’s degree in Sociocultural Studies at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His interdisciplinary research focuses on film, literature, music, and cultural history in Spain from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, with a specific emphasis on the enduring impact of the Franco dictatorship on Asturias. He is working on his first monograph, tentatively titled Asturias and the Construction of Franco’s Spain, which draws on ecocriticism, labor history, and rural studies to engage with discourses surrounding Francoist modernization and working-class resistance from an understudied regional perspective. His scholarship appears in MLN and the edited volume Estudios asturianos en el siglo XXI and his research has been supported by a Fulbright grant at the University of Oviedo and a Public Humanities fellowship at the Modern Language Association.
